In some of my classes I was so engrossed in
listening (or the opposite problem occurred) that I didn't take very good notes,
but here are some that I did manage to capture:
Robert Millet - The Spirit of the Old
Testament
Covenants - Why did God make covenants with his
people?
*To establish relationships - we are saved as
families, not as individuals.
*To bind people to God - Amos 5: 1,4 and
Jeremiah 31: 31-34
*To bind people to one another
*To set them apart or to separate them out
("Peculiar People") Exodus 19:5, Deut 32: 7-9
"Getting married in the temple isn't just
the neat Mormon thing to do, it is the covenant way of doing things."
Getting married in the temple is something we promised we would do in the
preexistence. The temple is the link to covenant making. D&C
124: 36-39.
Breaking of covenants leads to scattering (eg.
the House of Israel). See Jeremiah 16: 11-13.
"Gathering of Israel" means making or
renewing covenants. See Jeremiah 16:15-16, Jeremiah 32:37-42, Isaiah 27:12, and
Jeremiah 3:14-18.
