-He used picture association to teach the references first. Then after all of the referneces are learned, have the students go back and teach each other the words to memorize. Use the first letter of every word to help the memorization along.

• Start the day with a cool picture on the board with a caption.
• Put the days activity on the board using only the first letter of every word to get the students thinking while waiting for the class to begin. ie:
  T W W B W O T S M C
  [Today we will be working on the Scripture Mastery cards.]
• Use seating charts and change them every 3 or 4 weeks.
• Always have a review before holding a Scripture Chase.
• He used a color coded chart to show when the students have learned each 6 scripture mastery cards. They sign in as a team.
• He gave out certificates at the end of the year for his Honor Roll.
  • Standard: Know all of the Old Testament Books
  • Bronze: Memorized the References and Words for SM
  • Silver: Know all SM and pass on a timed quiz
  • Gold: Know all SM and can tell what they mean.
