Exodus overview 7 deadly Telestial Sins

Jews view of secular reality

  1. Creation
  2. Redemption at Red Sea
  3. Revelation at Sinai

Egypt = World or Telestial world
Sinai or Wilderness = Terrestrial
Promised Land = Celestial
read Josh. 2 sometime and compare to temple

Reasons Israel struggled and struggles leaving Telestial world

  1. Ex 13: 17 Why did they leave Egypt and travel the path that they took? They had to avoid conflict, confrontation, war or they would want to go back to Egypt
  2. Ex. 14:11 Fear for their lives - social, physical, economic, academic and political. We also have these fears.
  3. Ex. 15: 23-26 Reliance on Telestial ways, material comforts. Worldly ways
  4. Ex 16: 3 Numb. 11:5-6 Romanticizes Telestial world- they wanted a variety of foods as opposed to straight manna. Diet from heaven. As slaves in Egypt they probably did not have they foods they were longing for. Rejecting a meal from someone was a great insult. They rejected a meal from the Lord! Insulting Christ!
  5. Ex. 16:15-21 Deut 8:3 Lack of Spiritual progression gaining a little knowledge (saving manna) then relying solely on the knowledge without promises (further manna).
  6. Ex. 17: 3-7 Spiritual below physical. Telestial world teaches - physical as real. Lack of visible signs I indicates that something is not real.
They struggle with things that dont add up or fit together with past experiences. Fall back to physical things or Telestial.
  7. Ex. 19:11 & 20: 18-19 Lack of personal responsibility - Increased spirituality entails more personal responsibility in spiritual matters.

Follow the prophet = obedience = personal revelation

The Israelites sinned when they asked Moses at Sinai to speak to them in place of God.
